Users will be able to manage the entire application process online through GoCPS. They can subscribe to receive updates that will guide them through the process, they will be able to conduct detailed research to find the best school for them; they will be able to create an account, access their eligibility, and rank schools; they will be able to complete all their applications; and then once they are matched, they will receive their high school offer.
The current application process is complex and creates lots of barriers. There are more than 100 applications to different schools and programs with different deadlines, there is no central place to view school options, and each year more than 31,000 high school offers go unused which blocks many students from potentially getting into a program that may be a better fit for them. Altogether, this makes the process less equitable and transparent.
With GoCPS, we have created a central platform for managing the entire high school application process through one online account. We now use a nationally recognized matching process to increase the speed and transparency of our selection process. We have moved to a single best offer model that will eliminate tens of thousands of unused offers that block many students from accessing better programs. We’re also building a best in class research engine that will make it easier for families to explore and select the best school and program for them.
Our new application process brings a wide variety of improvements to our families. It simplifies the process and increases equity of access. It provides more transparent admissions decisions and enrollment offers. It reduces unused offers and opens doors to better program matches. It also provides more comprehensive access to school research resources.
Families can visit GoCPS now to subscribe and start researching schools. The application system will be open for families to activate their accounts and access their student(s)’ eligibility information on August 1, 2017. Families will be able to start applying to high schools on October 2, 2017.
Students can apply to all District-run high schools, including selective-enrollment high schools, using GoCPS. Three charter schools and two contract schools are also available through this application process. We will continue adding more charter and contract schools as they sign-up, with the goal of having 100 percent of CPS high schools participating in GoCPS.
Current CPS students should start the process by subscribing to the GoCPS mailing list to receive updates and announcements about the application process. Before the end of the 2016-17 school year, they will receive an activation code that can be used to create their GoCPS account in August 2017. Once their account is activated, they will be able to view their eligibility and begin ranking their top 20 schools. Students can submit applications from October 2017 to December 2017, and after the matching process is complete, they will receive their single-best- offer for high school in February 2018. Once they have accepted their offer, their application process is complete.
Non-CPS students will register for the NWEA, tentatively beginning in August 2017, by going to the GoCPS website. These students will be issued an activation code to create their GoCPS account when they receive their test dates. Once their test scores and eligibility have been determined, they can begin applying to schools.
